Proximus NXT SpearIT takes De Lijn's buses and trams to the next level

Proximus NXT SpearIT, leading ICT solutions provider and subsidiary of Proximus, has won a framework agreement with De Lijn, the Flemish public transport company.

The framework contract includes the replacement of current 3G routers in buses and trams with new 4G/5G routers, including full staging and installation.

De Lijn deploys more than 4,500 buses and trams across Flanders (together with its subcontractors) and serves more than 3.5 million passengers annually. Through the combined efforts of Proximus NXT SpearIT and the Proximus Group, De Lijn aims to strengthen its digital transformation, improve fleet efficiency and increase customer satisfaction.

This project is part of the "IT on board" initiative with the aim of making more accurate information available to passengers via a more modern and easily manageable infrastructure.

We are very happy to be working with Proximus NXT SpearIT. Their proven expertise in delivering quality and innovative solutions matches our requirements and expectations. With their support, we hope to achieve our digital objectives and offer our customers better connectivity and services. The integration of advanced technology in our fleet gives us a competitive advantage and strengthens De Lijn's innovative position in the transport sector,

Philippe Le Cerf – CIO of De Lijn

We are honoured that De Lijn has chosen us as their partner for this important project. This contract strengthens our position as a reliable partner for the public sector in Belgium. We look forward to strengthening our current cooperation with De Lijn and helping them realise their digital ambitions,

Luc Dehaene – Sales & Marketing Director at Proximus NXT SpearIT

We strongly believe that our solutions will enable them to improve their performance, manage their connectivity efficiently and enhance their competitiveness.

By working with strategic partners, we also ensure rapid implementation and installation of the new routers.

This allows customers to control various configurations for both trams and buses through a single management portal.

About De Lijn

De Lijn is the Flemish public company that provides public transport by bus and tram in Flanders. About 3.5 million people use De Lijn's services once or more every year. For its operation, the transport company receives an allocation from the Flemish Region, its main shareholder. Ticket sales are the second source of income.

In total, around 10 million journeys are made by buses and trams every year. De Lijn's own fleet consists of more than 2,000 buses and more than 400 trams. The private firms that drive on behalf of De Lijn also own buses themselves. They account for half of the bus kilometres. With almost 8,000 employees, De Lijn is one of the country's largest employers. Its private operators employ more than 2,000 more people.

As the main shareholder of shared bikes 'Blue-bike', De Lijn promotes and supports combi mobility. This allows travellers to combine a bus or tram ride with a shared bike when travelling.
